Burton Hospitals NHS Trust
NHS Hospitals Trust posts participating in VTS GP Registrar Vocational Training Scheme
Queen's Hospital is a District Genreal Hospital which still retains a reputation as a friendly hospital which serves its local community.
The first hospital in Burton was started in 1867 and provided 22 beds. The old General Hospital closed in 1993 and the beds were moved to the recently completed Queen’s Hospital - now 510 beds. The new hospital was formally opened by Her Majesty the Queen in December 1995.
Queen’s Hospital (Burton) was one of the first to have a fully operational Hospital Information Support System or HISS. All the major modules have already been implemented: Patient Care Inquiry, Clinic and Waiting List Scheduling, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Maternity, Nurse Rostering, Care Planning, Theatre Scheduling, A&E and Order Entry (for Pathology, X-Ray, ECG, Haematology, Biochemistry, Microbiology etc.). This system was featured on "Medicine Now" on Radio 4, in 1997, with the comment, "a taste of the future!" It is well liked by all the hospital staff who would not now be without it!
Our high profile and successes with complex information systems has been recognised by the NHS Executive who has appointed the Trust to pilot and develop an Electronic Patient Record System over two years, this project has now been completed.
The modern, spacious Graduate Medical Centre boasts an excellent library with on-line information services and multiple terminals for CD ROM teaching. It was the first library in the West Midlands Region to be awarded a Grade 1 for it’s facilities.
The appointed trainees will undergo Basic Life Support Course in our-well equipped Resuscitation Training Unit.
The hospital enjoys links with the University Hospitals of Birmingham, Nottingham and Leicester, and trainees are encouraged to attend the postgraduate meetings.
The hospital posts include General Medicine, Care of the Elderly (which deals with acute admissions of those over 75 years), A&E, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT and Ophthalmology.
